IndieCity.com hosted its second Global Game Jam site in Birmingham, with over 50 attendees creating 11 different games.
7 FEBRUARY 2012. LEAMINGTON SPA, UK – IndieCity
This year’s IndieCity-hosted Global Game Jam site in Birmingham saw over 50 participants get together to create 11 titles, including a Sega Mega Drive game! The attendees included a wide range of different games development experience, from first year students through to professional development studios.
As well as video games, one team designed and created a board game and put together a demonstration video, available on Youtube. All the games created over the weekend are available for download on the Global Game Jam site so you can try them out!
2012 saw the introduction of the IGDA’s Game Accessibility SIGs Global Games Jam Accessibility Challenge to the Global Game Jam. The IGDA Accessibility Challenge winners for Birmingham were “This Statement is False” with their game Flerbs, a fun platform puzzler for up to four players. In addition to winning the Accessibility Challenge with their various visual, audio and difficulty options, Flerbs also won the overall award for best game at the IndieCity Global Game Jam. Lynsey Graham, the IndieCity Game Jam accessibility mentor and designer at Blitz Games Studios, said, “It’s amazing how many of the accessibility features the Flerbs team managed to implement in 48 hours, on top of making a four player game with 30 levels!”
The IndieCity jam site was sponsored by Audiomotion, BlitzTech, Gamer Camp, The Game Creators, and Microsoft. Prizes from our sponsors were awarded to the teams behind Skitz, Infinite Space, Ouroboro Ware and Flerbs. Alex Roberts from Nottingham Trent University won a Nokia Lumia 800 for her personal effort towards her team’s game.
All Global Game Jam participants can upload their games to IndieCity, using the special “Global Game Jam” tag to allow people to browse all the jam games!
